Marquette, MI – A winter storm is poised to impact Michigan’s Upper Peninsula starting Tuesday, bringing heavy snow, strong winds, and hazardous travel conditions across the region.

The National Weather Service has issued warnings of snow accumulations between 3 to 5 inches by Tuesday evening, with gusts up to 30 mph expected to create blowing and drifting snow. Major roadways, including US-41 and M-28, are likely to see reduced visibility and icy conditions, making travel dangerous. Drivers are urged to prepare for delays and exercise extreme caution.

Overnight temperatures will drop to the teens, with wind chills making it feel even colder. Snow showers will continue through Wednesday morning, although conditions will gradually improve throughout the day. By Thursday, the forecast shows sunny skies returning, but with highs only in the upper 20s and lows remaining in the teens, icy patches will linger.

Residents should secure outdoor items to prevent wind damage and prepare for possible power outages due to falling tree limbs. Those traveling should pack emergency kits and monitor weather updates closely.

This winter storm is expected to taper off by midweek, but cold temperatures and patchy snow will persist into the weekend.
