Winnipeg, MB – An elderly man and woman were hospitalized Sunday evening after police say they were violently assaulted on Elgin Avenue in Winnipeg.

According to the Winnipeg Police Service, the attack happened around 6:32 p.m. on September 20, 2025, in the 300 block of Elgin Avenue. An 85-year-old man and 80-year-old woman were walking on the sidewalk when a suspect allegedly shoved the woman to the ground, then punched both victims repeatedly. Police said the man was knocked down while trying to intervene, and both were punched and stomped on while lying on the ground.

Both victims were transported to the hospital. One is reported in stable condition, while the other remains in an unstable condition but with non-life-threatening injuries.

At 6:37 p.m., Central District General Patrol officers located the suspect after he ran into a nearby residence. Police said the man was uncooperative, requiring multiple Taser deployments before he could be safely taken into custody. Officers later learned the suspect was wanted on a warrant for suspension of parole and statutory release.

Police identified the suspect as Nathan Droy Paul, 28. He has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault, resisting a peace officer, and warrant-related violations. Paul remains in custody.
