According to the Winnipeg Police Service, investigators with the Property Crime Unit linked the suspect to five separate thefts between August 6 and September 28. Police said the man was under a court order prohibiting him from attending retail stores where the merchandise was allegedly stolen.

The reported thefts included:

  • August 6: $356 stolen from a store in the 1500 block of Regent Avenue
  • August 14: $1,793 stolen from a store in the 800 block of Leila Avenue
  • August 24: $199 stolen from a store in the 1600 block of Kenaston Boulevard
  • August 25: $284 stolen from a store in the 1400 block of Portage Avenue
  • August 28: $178 stolen from a store in the 1500 block of Regent Avenue

On September 25, 2025 at 11 a.m., investigators located the suspect at a residence in the William Whyte neighborhood and placed him under arrest.

Police identified the man as Joshua Michael McPherson. He has been charged with five counts of theft under $5,000 and four counts of failing to comply with a probation order. Authorities said McPherson was also arrested on outstanding warrants for five additional counts of failing to comply with probation, five counts of theft under $5,000, failing to comply with a release order, and identity theft.

McPherson was detained in custody, police said.
