Winnipeg, Manitoba – A jackknifed trailer triggered a crash on Winnipeg’s Perimeter Highway bridge Tuesday, causing temporary closure.

According to the Winnipeg Police Service, officers responded just after 8 a.m. to a motor vehicle collision at the Fermor Road/Perimeter Highway overpass bridge.

Police said a Ford F-350 truck towing a trailer was traveling southbound on the Perimeter Highway when the trailer allegedly jackknifed. The incident resulted in a collision with a Dodge Ram. Authorities said the F-350 then crashed into the bridge guardrail on the south side of the span.

With assistance from the RCMP, Springfield Fire and Rescue, and the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service, one occupant was safely extricated from the Ford F-350. Police confirmed no injuries were reported; however, the driver of the F-350 was transported to a hospital in stable condition for precautionary reasons.

Tow trucks removed the damaged vehicles from the scene. A bridge inspector from Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure examined the structure and determined the bridge was safe for travel. The Perimeter Highway was later reopened in both directions.

The temporary shutdown affected morning commuters using the south Perimeter corridor, a key traffic route around the city.

The investigation remains ongoing.
