Winnipeg, MB – A 29-year-old man is facing multiple charges after an alleged violent assault and arson at a Ferry Road commercial property Sunday afternoon, according to Winnipeg Police.

Officers from the West District General Patrol and Tactical Support Team responded around 2:12 p.m. on October 26, 2025, to the 600 block of Ferry Road following reports of a man assaulted in a parking lot.

Police say the suspect arrived armed with a metal bar, damaging windows on four parked vehicles before striking a 36-year-old man in the head, leaving him unconscious. The victim was taken to the hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable.

Investigators report the man then used a rock to break an office window, entered the building, and barricaded himself inside a garage, where he allegedly set a fire that caused extensive structural damage. Officers extinguished the flames and arrested the suspect, identified as Arley Alvin Harper, inside the building.

Harper was treated for smoke inhalation and remains in custody. He faces charges including Aggravated Assault, Arson Causing Damage to Property, Break Enter & Commit – Place, and four counts of Mischief Under $5,000.

No additional injuries were reported, and the investigation remains ongoing.
