Winnipeg police are renewing calls for information on a deadly hit-and-run that claimed the life of 26-year-old Tanner Barry Keeper one year ago.

According to the Winnipeg Police Service, investigators believe a dark-colored, early 2000s Buick LeSabre was involved in the August 8, 2024, collision at Queen Elizabeth Way and Mayfair Avenue. The vehicle, captured in surveillance footage, was traveling southbound when it allegedly struck Keeper after he fell while walking across the roadway around 3:30 a.m.

Police say the impact left Keeper critically injured. He was transported to a hospital by the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service but later died from his injuries. Authorities have not located the driver and continue to investigate, urging anyone with dashcam or security footage from the area to come forward.

“We want to move this investigation forward and provide closure for Tanner’s family,” the Traffic Division stated in its update.

Tips can be shared anonymously with Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS or through winnipegcrimestoppers.org. Investigators can also be contacted directly at 204-986-7085.

Police released a still image from the video showing the suspected vehicle in motion, hoping someone will recognize it.

The Traffic Division’s Collision Investigation Section remains in charge of the case.
