Winnipeg, MB – A routine traffic stop led to two arrests Tuesday evening after police say a loaded firearm, knife, and several packages of illegal cigarettes were discovered inside a taxi on Selkirk Avenue.
According to the Winnipeg Police Service, officers with the North District General Patrol stopped the vehicle around 6:30 p.m. on November 11, 2025, after observing a Highway Traffic Act violation. One passenger, identified as 41-year-old Bernard Keith Raven, was wanted for breaching probation after allegedly cutting off his ankle monitor the day before.
During the stop, officers found a loaded sawed-off 12-gauge shotgun, ammunition, a folding knife, and seven packages of illegal cigarettes stored in a duffle bag. Both items were seized as evidence.
Raven now faces multiple firearms, weapons, and breach of release order charges and remains in custody. The second passenger, a 25-year-old woman, faces similar firearms-related offences and was released on an undertaking to appear in court at a later date.
Police say Raven also received a Provincial Offence Notice related to the Highway Traffic Act, and both passengers were cited for possessing illegal cigarettes.
