Winnipeg, Manitoba – A 33-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred last year along Abinojii Mikanah, marking a major development in a months-long investigation.
According to the Winnipeg Police Service, the arrest was made on Monday following consultation with the Manitoba Prosecution Service. Authorities say the man is facing charges including dangerous operation of a conveyance causing death and driving while disqualified under the Highway Traffic Act.
The case stems from an incident on September 16, 2025, when a vehicle traveling eastbound on Abinojii Mikanah mounted a curb near St. Mary’s Road and struck a woman in her 40s who was waiting at a bus stop. Police allege the vehicle then collided with a guardrail and flipped over.
Emergency crews transported the victim to a local hospital in critical condition. She later died from her injuries, according to officials.
Investigators say the driver remained at the scene following the crash, and the Traffic Division took over the case shortly afterward. In the months that followed, police gathered evidence and worked with prosecutors to determine appropriate charges.
The suspect was released on an undertaking and is expected to appear in court at a later date.
The arrest brings a new phase in the case, which previously prompted a public appeal for information as investigators worked to reconstruct the events leading up to the crash.
Authorities have not released additional details about the suspect or the circumstances surrounding the incident.
