Winnipeg, MB – A late-night police operation Friday led to the arrest of a 34-year-old man after officers stopped a stolen vehicle and seized methamphetamine, cash, and bear spray, according to Winnipeg Police Service.

According to police, the incident began shortly before 10:20 p.m. when patrolling officers spotted a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix reported stolen on November 30 near Notre Dame Avenue and Wall Street. Air1 was called in to maintain visual containment as the vehicle continued through the 500 block of Gilmore Avenue.

Police say North District General Patrol later deployed a tire deflation device, successfully stopping the vehicle at Logan Avenue and Cecil Street. Officers extracted the driver — identified as 34-year-old Shelton Edwin Fontaine — who was allegedly the lone occupant.

Police said that bear spray was visible in the vehicle, prompting officers to search it further. Inside, they allegedly located 106 grams of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $1,225, along with a cellular phone and $3,200 in cash, all seized as evidence.

According to the report, Fontaine is charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000, Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000, Possession of a Weapon, and Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking. He was detained in custody following the arrest.

Police did not report any injuries stemming from the incident.
