Winnipeg, Manitoba – A 27-year-old man faces multiple charges after allegedly assaulting a 6-year-old bus passenger and a school-aged child in Winnipeg’s Unicity neighborhood Tuesday.

According to the Winnipeg Police Service, officers from the West District General Patrol arrested Chase Julian Harrison around 12:30 p.m. on Feb. 21, 2026, following a series of incidents along the 3600 block of Portage Avenue.

Police allege the first assault occurred at approximately 11:45 a.m. aboard a parked transit bus in the 3600 block of Portage Avenue. Investigators said Harrison, who was a passenger, allegedly approached and physically assaulted a 6-year-old boy without provocation. The child was not injured, and the bus operator directed the suspect off the bus.

Shortly afterward, police say Harrison allegedly entered a nearby retail store, selected a baseball bat and struck a school-aged child in the upper body, knocking the child to the ground. The child’s father intervened and fought off the suspect before he fled. The injured child was transported to hospital in stable condition and treated.

At about 12:09 p.m., officers responded to a collision repair centre in the same block after staff reported a theft. Police allege Harrison stole a customer’s vehicle keys before being arrested without further incident.

Harrison and the victims were previously unknown to one another, police said.

He is charged with aggravated assault, assault and theft under $5,000 and remains in custody.
