Winnipeg, MB – A 41-year-old man is in custody after a tense standoff with police in Winnipeg’s St. Vital neighborhood Saturday evening, drawing a heavy response from tactical and crisis units.

According to the Winnipeg Police Service, officers arrested Graeme Havens following a short but intense standoff at a residence in the 1–99 block of Sadler Avenue on April 25, 2026, Saturday. Police said the situation began around 3:10 p.m. when West District General Patrol officers, along with the Tactical Support Team, drone unit, K9 unit, and Crisis Negotiation Unit, attended the scene to execute an arrest.

Authorities said Havens was allegedly the subject of multiple protection orders between April 13 and April 17. On April 24, Thursday, investigators learned he had allegedly sent emails to protected individuals, breaching those orders. A warrant was issued for his arrest. Police also had information he was armed and had made concerning comments toward law enforcement.

When officers attempted to make contact Saturday, Havens allegedly barricaded himself inside the home. After several hours of negotiation, he exited the residence at approximately 5:05 p.m. and was taken into custody without incident.

Police confirmed Havens has been charged with disobeying a court order. No injuries were reported during the incident, and authorities say there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The St. Vital area, located in southeast Winnipeg within the Winnipeg Metropolitan Region, saw a temporary police presence as the situation unfolded.
