Winnipeg, MB – A 26-year-old man has been arrested following a string of high-value thefts targeting a sunglass retailer in Winnipeg’s St. James area earlier this month.
According to the Winnipeg Police Service, investigators with the Property Crime Unit began looking into multiple thefts at a store in the 1400 block of Portage Avenue. The incidents, which occurred between October 1 and October 8, 2025, involved more than 40 pairs of designer sunglasses valued at roughly $19,000 in total.
Police allege the same man entered the store on five separate occasions, stealing between four and twelve pairs each time.
The Property Crime Unit later identified Nicholas Devon Chastellaine, 26, as a suspect. On October 17, 2025, the Manitoba Integrated Violent Offender Apprehension Unit arrested Chastellaine at a residence in the 600 block of Toronto Street while investigating an unrelated incident.
Chastellaine has been charged with theft over $5,000, four counts of theft under $5,000, and multiple counts of failing to comply with court orders. Police confirmed he remains in custody.
Authorities have not released further details, but the investigation remains ongoing.
