Winnipeg, MB – A 19-year-old man has been arrested following a months-long investigation into violent assaults against women working in Winnipeg’s sex trade, according to police.

The Winnipeg Police Service’s Sex Crimes and Counter Exploitation Units began investigating in April 2025 after several women reported being sexually assaulted at gun and knife point.

According to police, incidents occurred on April 25 in the 1400 block of St. Matthews Avenue, May 10 in the 300 block of Hargrave Street, and October 4 in the 1700 block of Sargent Avenue. In each case, a woman was allegedly assaulted after arranging to meet a man. Victims were taken to hospitals for treatment.

On October 13, investigators arrested Mohammed Al-Samraei, 19, at a business in the 1600 block of Kenaston Boulevard. Police later linked him to multiple incidents through further investigation.

Al-Samraei faces several charges, including:

  • Two counts of sexual assault with a weapon,
  • Pointing a firearm,
  • Carrying concealed weapons,
  • Assault, and
  • Theft under $5,000, among others.
