WINNEMUCCA, Nev. – Snow and gusty winds will continue to blanket large stretches of northern and central Nevada, creating slick highways and hazardous travel through 10 p.m. Wednesday. Drivers along Interstate 80 and U.S. 50 could encounter snow-covered pavement and sudden visibility drops, especially overnight and during the Tuesday morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Elko, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for Humboldt, Northern and Southern Lander, Northern and Southern Eureka, and Northwestern Nye counties. Snow totals will range from 1 to 10 inches, with higher elevations near Emigrant Pass, Garden Pass, Pinto Summit, and Hickison Summit seeing the greatest accumulation. Wind gusts up to 45 mph may blow snow across open valleys and mountain passes.

Communities including Winnemucca, Battle Mountain, Eureka, Tonopah, Crescent Valley, and Golconda should prepare for icy bridges and overpasses. Gusty winds may also snap small tree branches and reduce visibility in exposed areas.

Motorists should slow down, allow extra stopping distance, and check Nevada road conditions by calling 511 before traveling. Snow showers taper late Wednesday night, but slick conditions may linger into early Thursday.
