ROCKFORD, IL – Two Rockford teenagers are facing multiple charges after police say a handgun was allegedly recovered following a report of suspicious activity outside Guilford High School on Friday.

According to the Rockford Police Department, a School Resource Officer at Guilford High received a report that a vehicle was circling the school’s parking lot and that one of the occupants appeared to be waving a handgun. The officer responded immediately, but the vehicle allegedly fled the area.

Authorities said two additional officers located the vehicle near Alpine Road and East State Street a short time later. Police reported that a loaded handgun was allegedly found on passenger Jazairon Flanagan, 19, of Rockford.

After reviewing the case, the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office approved several charges against Flanagan, including aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a firearm with no serial number, disorderly conduct, and criminal trespass. He was lodged in the Winnebago County Jail.

The driver, identified as Malakai Holman, 19, of Rockford, was also charged with criminal trespass, according to police.

Authorities emphasized that the charges are accusations, and both individuals are considered innocent unless proven guilty in court.
