Rockford, IL – A late-night shooting in Rockford has left one man dead and another facing murder charges following an incident on Milford Avenue.
According to the Rockford Police Department, officers responded around 11:53 p.m. on Friday, September 19, to the 1200 block of Milford Avenue after reports of gunfire. When they arrived, they found a 28-year-old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Police said the shooting followed a physical fight during what appeared to be a car “meet-up” involving several vehicles in the area.
Detectives identified the suspect as Kameron Lemon, 23, of Belvidere. After reviewing the case, the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office authorized charges of first-degree murder and aggravated battery with a firearm. Lemon was taken into custody Saturday, September 20, and booked into the Winnebago County Jail.
Authorities stressed that the charges are allegations, and Lemon is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
