Winfield, West Virginia – A Kanawha County man was arrested Tuesday on a malicious wounding charge, authorities said.

According to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office, Kenneth Dale Allen, also known as “Smokey,” was located and apprehended Feb. 24 at Cedar Grove Farm off Heizer Creek in Winfield following continued investigative efforts and coordinated police work.

Deputies with the Sheriff’s Office Warrants Division and Detective Alford allegedly took Allen into custody without incident, officials said. He was transported to Putnam County Magistrate Court, where he was arraigned on the criminal charge of malicious wounding.

A $100,000 cash bond was set during the arraignment proceedings, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Following court proceedings, Allen was transported to Western Regional Jail, where he remains incarcerated pending further legal action. Authorities reiterated that anyone arrested is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

The Sheriff’s Office did not release additional details about the underlying incident that led to the charge. The investigation remains ongoing.

The arrest may be relevant to local residents and commuters in the Winfield area as court proceedings move forward this week.
