Windsor County, VT – A 41-year-old Weathersfield man was arrested Friday evening after allegedly fleeing from a Windsor County sheriff’s deputy and being found with a significant amount of methamphetamine, according to authorities.
According to the Windsor County Sheriff’s Department, the arrest occurred around 5:30 p.m. Friday on Route 131 near Downers in the town of Weathersfield. Deputy Watrous located George Ottenbreit III at his residence while attempting to execute an in-state arrest warrant tied to a previous incident.
Sheriff’s officials said Ottenbreit allegedly fled on foot after making contact with the deputy. After a brief pursuit, he was apprehended. During the arrest, Deputy Watrous reportedly discovered Ottenbreit in possession of approximately 12 grams of methamphetamine.
Authorities noted the warrant stemmed from a prior case in which Ottenbreit allegedly fled on foot from Windsor County Sheriff Ryan Palmer during an earlier encounter.
Ottenbreit was taken into custody and transported to the Springfield Police Department, where he was processed. He was later lodged at Southern State Correctional Facility (SSCF).
According to the sheriff’s department, Ottenbreit faces multiple charges, including arrest on a warrant, possession of methamphetamine, resisting arrest, providing false information, and attempting to elude law enforcement.
He was cited to appear in Windsor County criminal court on Monday, December 8, for the outstanding warrant, with a later court date expected for the new charges. Officials cautioned that court dates and times are subject to change and advised the public to confirm details with the criminal court clerk.
A booking photo was released by the sheriff’s department as part of the arrest announcement. All charges are allegations, and Ottenbreit is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
