Panama City, FL – The Florida Panhandle is bracing for an unusual bout of cold weather as temperatures are forecasted to plummet early Friday morning.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a cold weather advisory from 4 a.m. to 9 a.m. EST, impacting areas such as Walton, Bay, and Calhoun counties. Wind chills could drop to as low as 21 degrees, posing risks for outdoor exposure.
Residents are urged to take precautions, including dressing warmly in layers, hats, and gloves when venturing outside. Pets should be brought indoors or given adequate shelter and unfrozen water. Local officials recommend checking on vulnerable populations, such as older adults and those without adequate heating.
While the cold weather is temporary, it serves as a reminder to residents to prepare for future dips in temperatures. Sensitive plants and outdoor plumbing should be protected from the freeze.
Friday morning marks one of the coldest starts to December in recent years for the Panhandle, with temperatures expected to rebound later in the day.
