Chicago, IL – Unseasonably warm weather and gusty south winds will sweep through Chicago today, raising concerns about elevated fire risks and potential storms tonight. High temperatures are projected to reach up to 81 degrees, with south winds gusting between 35 to 45 mph, creating heightened fire spread risks, particularly in grassy areas.

According to the National Weather Service, these conditions may intensify tonight as thunderstorms roll through the region. A few storms could bring locally damaging winds, especially along major roadways like I-55 and Lake Shore Drive. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items and be cautious on the roads, as wind gusts may impact vehicle handling. The NWS recommends staying indoors during peak wind hours and monitoring weather updates for sudden storm developments.

Thursday brings a swift cooldown, with temperatures dropping into the upper 50s by evening. Winds will shift from the west, maintaining gusts up to 45 mph. Trick-or-treaters should prepare for breezy conditions with lows between 33 and 41 degrees by nighttime, making it one of the cooler Halloween nights.

Following the storm’s exit, Chicagoans can expect calmer, cooler weather by Friday with sunshine and highs around 55 degrees. Saturday will be partly sunny and mild, reaching the low 60s, while rain is likely to return on Sunday with temperatures ranging from the mid-60s to upper 50s.

Residents are advised to stay updated on weather conditions, as another series of storms may develop early next week.
