Austin–San Antonio, TX – A blustery and much cooler day is underway across South-Central Texas, with strong north winds sweeping through the region behind a passing cold front.
According to the National Weather Service in Austin–San Antonio, winds of 20 to 30 mph are expected throughout the day, with gusts reaching up to 50 mph in some areas. The gusty conditions are ushering in cooler, drier air, dropping high temperatures into the 60s and low to mid-70s.
A Wind Advisory remains in effect for most of the area through 7 PM this evening, excluding portions along the Rio Grande.
Impacts include:
- Tree limbs could be blown down, and minor power outages are possible.
- Difficult driving conditions, especially for high-profile vehicles.
- Outdoor decorations and loose objects should be secured or brought indoors.
Officials also urge residents to avoid outdoor burning and properly dispose of cigarettes and matches, as dry, windy conditions can quickly spark grass fires.
Winds are expected to gradually decrease overnight as high pressure builds in, leading to calmer and cooler conditions heading into Thursday.
