Lebanon, TN – A Wilson County man has been charged after authorities say a small dog was found shot and seriously injured along Oak Grove Road on September 18, 2025.

According to the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office, officers with Wilson County Animal Control responded to reports of an injured black dog wearing a blue collar. The animal was found suffering from a gunshot wound to its front right leg and was immediately taken to a local veterinarian.

Veterinarians later confirmed the dog had been shot twice — once grazing its spine and another round shattering the bone in its front leg.

Following a joint investigation by Wilson County Animal Control and the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division, detectives identified a 23-year-old suspect, who was indicted and taken into custody on one count of aggravated animal cruelty.

The sheriff’s office said the dog is continuing to recover under veterinary care and is expected to make progress despite the severity of its injuries.

Residents are encouraged to report any suspected acts of animal cruelty to local authorities.
