Wilmington, Ohio – A fast-moving line of rain showers is pushing through Ohio this morning, followed by a sharp increase in winds that could make travel difficult through the rest of the day. While rainfall will taper off quickly, strong wind gusts will linger, posing concerns for drivers and anyone with outdoor plans.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, showers will move west to east through the region this morning, accompanied by breezy conditions and a few locally stronger gusts. The most impactful winds are expected immediately behind the line of showers as winds shift from the south to the west. Peak wind gusts between 30 and 45 mph are possible across much of southwest and central Ohio through the afternoon.
Cities including Cincinnati, Dayton, Wilmington, Springfield, Chillicothe, and Portsmouth could experience sudden gusts capable of downing small tree limbs and blowing around unsecured outdoor items. High-profile vehicles may have difficulty on north-south roadways, especially during the late morning and afternoon hours when winds are strongest.
Residents are encouraged to secure loose objects and use caution while driving, particularly on bridges and open stretches of highway. Winds are expected to gradually ease later tonight, but breezy conditions may persist into the evening. No severe storms are expected, though additional advisories could be issued if wind gusts trend higher than forecast.
