Wilmington, OH – A brief stretch of milder December weather is expected across Wilmington and much of southwest Ohio beginning Wednesday, with temperatures climbing well above seasonal averages before a strong cold front ushers in colder air by the end of the week.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, high temperatures Wednesday are expected to rise into the 40s across much of the region, including Clinton County and nearby communities. Even warmer conditions are forecast for Thursday, when highs are expected to reach the lower to mid-50s in parts of southwest and central Ohio.

Forecasters say the warming trend will be short-lived. A strong cold front is expected to move through late Thursday into Friday, bringing a noticeable drop in temperatures. Highs on Friday are forecast to fall back into the 30s, closer to typical mid-December conditions.

The National Weather Service noted that the warmer air mass ahead of the cold front will allow temperatures to climb 10 to 15 degrees above average for this time of year. While no significant precipitation is highlighted with the midweek warmup, residents may notice rapidly changing conditions as the colder air returns.

Drivers and outdoor workers are encouraged to remain aware of forecast updates, especially as fluctuating temperatures can affect road conditions later in the week. Any lingering moisture could refreeze once colder air settles in, particularly during overnight hours.

Meteorologists say temperature swings like this are not uncommon during late December, as strong systems move across the Midwest. Residents are advised to enjoy the brief warm spell while continuing to prepare for winter weather as the season progresses.
