Wilmington, Ohio – Dangerous cold continues across southwest and central Ohio today as wind chills dip well below zero, creating hazardous conditions for anyone spending extended time outdoors.

According to the National Weather Service office in Wilmington, wind chills through the day are expected to range from 5 to 15 degrees below zero across much of the region, including Dayton, Cincinnati, Columbus, and surrounding communities. Even during the afternoon, apparent temperatures are expected to remain below zero in several counties, increasing the risk of frostbite on exposed skin.

The cold persists into tonight, though wind chills will gradually improve into the single digits by Wednesday morning. Temperatures remain below normal through tonight before a modest warmup arrives Wednesday.

That warmup comes with a tradeoff. On Wednesday, highs climb into the upper 30s to lower 40s across much of southwest and central Ohio, but strong northwest winds develop behind a passing system. Wind gusts of 25 to 35 mph are expected throughout the day, with the strongest winds likely from late morning through early evening.

Those gusts could make travel difficult for high-profile vehicles on open roads and may bring down unsecured objects. Despite the warmer air, the wind will keep it feeling chilly.

Residents are urged to dress in layers today, limit outdoor exposure, bring pets indoors, and secure loose items ahead of Wednesday’s wind. Cold conditions remain a concern tonight, with calmer but still chilly weather continuing into midweek.
