Wilmington, OH – A vigorous cold front is expected to sweep across southwest and central Ohio Sunday night, bringing a dramatic temperature drop and a return to winter-like conditions by Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, unseasonably warm air ahead of the front will allow temperatures to rise into the mid to upper 60s on Sunday. Conditions will change quickly Sunday night as the cold front moves through the region.

By Monday morning, temperatures are forecast to be 35 to 40 degrees colder than Sunday’s highs, with readings continuing to fall through the day. High temperatures Monday are expected to struggle through the upper 20s to lower 30s, with many locations dropping into the mid-20s by Monday night.

The rapid cooldown may catch some residents off guard, especially after the recent mild stretch. Gusty winds behind the front will add to the chill, making it feel colder than the thermometer indicates. The National Weather Service cautions that the sudden temperature change could impact outdoor activities, sensitive plants, and exposed plumbing.

While widespread winter precipitation is not highlighted in the forecast, any lingering moisture on roads could refreeze as temperatures fall, potentially creating slick spots, particularly on bridges and overpasses late Sunday night and early Monday morning.

Residents are encouraged to prepare now by dressing in layers, securing outdoor items, and checking heating systems. Those traveling early Monday should allow extra time and be alert for rapidly changing conditions.

Temperatures are expected to remain below normal through early next week before a gradual moderation later in the week. The National Weather Service advises monitoring forecast updates as timing and exact temperature values may continue to be refined.
