Wilmington, Ohio – While most accumulating snow has ended, hazardous travel conditions may redevelop this evening across parts of southwest Ohio due to scattered snow showers and blowing snow.

According to the National Weather Service Wilmington, Ohio, snow showers are expected to redevelop later this evening, producing light additional accumulations in some areas. Gusty northwest winds will accompany the snow, causing blowing and drifting snow that may reduce visibility and re-coat previously cleared roadways.

Forecasters warn that reduced visibility could occur along major travel corridors including Interstate 71, Interstate 75, Interstate 70, and U.S. Route 35, particularly in open and rural areas. Even brief snow showers may quickly create slick conditions on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses.

Wind gusts overnight are expected to range from 25 to 35 mph, which may worsen blowing snow impacts despite minimal new accumulation. In addition, sub-zero wind chills are forecast to develop late tonight, increasing the risk for cold exposure.

The National Weather Service cautions that drivers should not let their guard down, as conditions may deteriorate quickly after sunset. Reduced visibility combined with icy patches could pose challenges for overnight travelers and early-morning commuters.

Saturday morning conditions are expected to gradually improve as snow showers taper off and winds begin to ease. However, cold temperatures will persist into the weekend, keeping any snow and ice in place.

Students, early-shift workers, and weekend travelers are urged to allow extra travel time, slow down during snow showers, and carry winter safety supplies if driving overnight. Residents should also limit prolonged outdoor exposure due to dangerous wind chills.

The National Weather Service recommends monitoring weather.gov/iln for updated statements and short-term forecasts as conditions evolve overnight.
