Wilmington, Ohio – Gusty west winds up to 30 mph are expected to impact travel across southwest and central Ohio Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, breezy conditions will continue through the day as winds shift from the southwest this morning to westerly and eventually northwesterly by evening.
Wind gusts between 20 and 30 mph are forecast across much of the region, including Wilmington, Dayton, Columbus, and Cincinnati. The strongest gusts are expected during the late morning and afternoon hours.
Drivers along north-south corridors such as Interstate 71, Interstate 75, and portions of U.S. 23 and State Route 68 may experience crosswinds, particularly in open areas and on elevated roadways.
The NWS advises securing loose outdoor items and using extra caution if operating high-profile vehicles. Semi-trucks, delivery vans, and SUVs may be more susceptible to sudden gusts.
While no precipitation is expected with this system, the persistent wind could create minor travel difficulties, especially during peak commuting hours.
Temperatures are expected to remain seasonable, with winds gradually diminishing later Wednesday evening.
Students, commuters, and commercial traffic traveling along I-70 and I-71 should allow extra following distance and remain alert for shifting wind directions.
