Wilmington, Ohio – Light snow is expected to develop Wednesday evening across the Wilmington area, with minor accumulations possible into early New Year’s Eve, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service office in Wilmington reports that while no widespread hazardous weather is expected today or tonight, conditions will change Wednesday night as a weather system moves through southwest Ohio. Snow is forecast to develop Wednesday evening and continue overnight, producing a quarter to a half inch of accumulation by early Thursday.

Early Tuesday morning conditions at Wilmington Airborne Airpark Airport showed temperatures near 20°F, with light snow and wind chills around 6°F. West winds near 15 mph, with higher gusts, are contributing to cold conditions during early morning and overnight hours.

Tuesday is expected to remain dry, with partly sunny skies and highs near 26°F. Clouds will increase Tuesday night, with lows dropping to around 23°F. Snow chances increase after midnight into Wednesday night, though snowfall rates are expected to remain light.

On Wednesday, skies will remain cloudy with highs near 33°F. Snow is expected to become more widespread Wednesday night, with precipitation chances near 70 percent. While heavy snowfall is not anticipated, untreated roads and bridges could become slick, especially during overnight travel.

By New Year’s Day, snow will taper off, with partly sunny skies returning and highs near 28°F. Cold conditions will continue into Thursday night, with lows near 20°F, followed by gradual warming late week. Highs are forecast to reach the upper 30s by Friday.

Spotter activation is not expected at this time, and no winter weather advisories are currently in effect. However, the National Weather Service advises monitoring road conditions as light snow can still impact travel.

Commuters, overnight workers, and holiday travelers should plan for reduced traction Wednesday night and allow extra travel time into early Thursday.
