Wilmington, OH – A dynamic weather system is moving through southwest Ohio today, bringing strong winds up to 45 mph and a change from rain to snow this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Wilmington.

Rain will continue through the morning before colder air sweeps in, turning precipitation to snow showers by early afternoon. Temperatures will steadily fall through the 30s, creating conditions for slick and icy roads by late day and into the evening commute.

The NWS reports that the strongest wind gusts will occur from late morning into the afternoon, affecting areas along Interstate 71 and surrounding highways. Blowing snow and reduced visibility may occur at times, especially in open and rural areas.

Forecasters expect only light snow accumulations, but even a light coating combined with subfreezing pavement temperatures could cause slippery spots through Thursday morning. Drivers are urged to reduce speeds, allow extra travel time, and remain alert for black ice overnight.

Conditions will gradually improve Thursday, but cold air will linger with highs remaining below freezing. Wind chills are expected to dip into the teens across much of the region Thursday morning.

Officials recommend securing outdoor objects today due to gusty winds and checking travel updates before heading out this evening.
