Wilmington, North Carolina – Breezy conditions are expected across coastal southeast North Carolina on Sunday as a cold front moves through the region, bringing gusty winds and steadily falling temperatures.
According to a social media update from the National Weather Service in Wilmington, wind gusts up to 30 mph are possible through the afternoon hours as the front passes. Skies are expected to gradually clear, but the increasing northwest wind will usher in noticeably cooler air.
Daytime high temperatures will slide through the 60s and into the 50s, making it feel cooler than recent days, especially in exposed coastal and inland areas. The gusty winds may create difficult conditions for boaters, beachgoers, and high-profile vehicles, particularly during the afternoon.
Conditions will calm somewhat after sunset, but the cooler air mass will remain in place overnight. Forecasts call for clear and cold conditions tonight, with low temperatures ranging from 25 to 30 degrees across much of the area. The combination of clearing skies and dry air will allow temperatures to fall quickly after dark.
The cold overnight lows may pose concerns for outdoor pets, sensitive plants, and unprotected plumbing, especially in rural and inland locations where temperatures typically dip lower. Residents are encouraged to take basic cold-weather precautions ahead of Sunday night.
The National Weather Service notes that while the wind will ease later Sunday evening, the cooler pattern will be firmly established by Monday morning.
