Wilmington, NC – Halloween morning opens calm and crisp along the North Carolina coast, with light winds and 40s inland giving way to a sunny, mid-60s afternoon across New Hanover and Brunswick counties. By midday, skies clear completely — ideal weather for trick-or-treat plans and outdoor fall events.

The National Weather Service in Wilmington reports dry, stable air dominating through Saturday, keeping skies mostly sunny and temperatures seasonably mild. Highs will reach 66°F today and 68°F Saturday, with lows dipping into the low 40s inland. Residents planning yard work or coastal travel will find near-perfect weather through early Saturday evening.

But a shift develops late Sunday as a weak frontal boundary moves in from the west. Forecasters say scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms could form by Sunday evening into early Monday, with rainfall totals between a quarter and half an inch possible. While severe weather isn’t expected, lightning and brief gusty winds may affect coastal highways including U.S. 17 and I-40 east of Burgaw.

Conditions improve quickly Monday afternoon as cooler, drier air filters back in. Highs early next week hover near 68°F, followed by a pleasant and sunny first week of November.

With Daylight Saving Time ending at 2 a.m. Sunday, residents can enjoy an extra hour of rest — just as the fall-to-winter transition pattern begins to hint at the next cool-down later in the week.
