Wilmington, N.C. – Drivers across coastal North Carolina could face reduced visibility early Friday as patchy fog lingers before sunrise, but otherwise a stretch of warm, mostly sunny weather continues through the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, patchy fog is expected after 5 a.m. Friday, followed by clear skies and highs near 86 degrees. Winds will shift southeast by late afternoon with occasional gusts near 16 mph Saturday.
The sun holds strong across New Hanover, Brunswick, and Pender counties through Saturday, making for prime beach conditions and steady mid-80s highs. But forecasters warn of a change late Sunday when a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms develops, mainly after 2 p.m. Those storms could bring brief downpours and slick roads, especially along U.S. 17 and I-40.
Residents are urged to stay cautious while driving in morning fog and prepare for possible delays or outdoor disruptions late Sunday.
Rain chances linger into early next week, with scattered thunderstorms possible Tuesday before skies clear again by midweek.
