Wilmington, North Carolina – Periods of light rain are expected Wednesday across southeast North Carolina and northeast South Carolina, with totals averaging less than one-quarter inch.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, a cold front dipping southward will bring intermittent light rain through late afternoon and early evening. Rainfall amounts are forecast to remain below 0.25 inches for most communities.
High temperatures Wednesday are expected to range between 65 and 68 degrees, with overnight lows falling into the mid to upper 30s. Winds are not expected to be strong, but wet pavement could create minor travel slowdowns along major corridors including U.S. 17, Interstate 40, U.S. 74 and Interstate 140.
Forecasters say dry and cooler weather will return Thursday, with highs dropping into the mid-50s and overnight lows falling into the low to mid-30s. Temperatures are expected to warm again heading into the weekend.
Additional rain chances may develop late Saturday night into Sunday as another system approaches the region, though details remain preliminary.
For Wednesday, impacts are expected to remain limited to light rain and damp roadways rather than flooding or severe weather.
Students and afternoon commuters may encounter wet conditions during dismissal and evening drive times.
The National Weather Service advises residents to monitor updated forecasts as the cold front progresses southward through the region.
