WILMINGTON, N.C. – Parts of downtown Wilmington could see flooding through tonight as a Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 9 p.m., with rising tides pushing water onto low-lying roads and riverfront areas.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, minor flooding is expected along the lower Cape Fear River, with water levels climbing up to half a foot above ground level in some areas. Portions of Battleship Road and USS North Carolina Road may experience up to one foot of standing water. In downtown Wilmington, sections of Water Street could see flooding up to a quarter-foot deep.
Drivers are urged to avoid flooded streets and barricaded areas, as even shallow water can cause vehicles to stall. The advisory notes that additional areas could flood during periods of heavy rain, high winds, or elevated tides later in the evening.
Residents in flood-prone zones should move vehicles to higher ground and monitor local updates as waters recede overnight.
