Wilmington, North Carolina – Temperatures dip slightly today before a sharp warming trend brings well above-normal highs to the area by the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, early morning fog and low clouds are expected to gradually dissipate after sunrise. Behind a dry cold front, daytime temperatures today are forecast to top out between 67 and 71 degrees under mostly sunny skies.
Conditions begin warming quickly on Friday as the front lifts back northward. High temperatures in Wilmington are expected to reach between 70 and 77 degrees Friday, with partly sunny skies and continued dry weather.
The warming trend peaks Saturday, when highs are forecast to range from 71 to near 80 degrees. Breezy conditions may also develop, but no precipitation is currently expected. Overnight lows through the period remain mild, generally in the upper 50s to low 60s.
The National Weather Service notes that these temperatures will run well above average for early January, continuing a stretch of unseasonably warm weather across coastal southeastern North Carolina.
Morning fog today could briefly affect visibility for early commuters, but improving conditions are expected by mid-morning. Outdoor plans late this week and over the weekend should benefit from dry weather and springlike temperatures.
