Wilmington, IL – The Wilmington Police Department is currently accepting applications for entry-level police officers, with submissions open until February 18, 2025, at 4:00 PM CST.
According to the department, the starting salary for new officers is $65,911. Wilmington, with a population of 5,735, currently has 22 sworn officers, including 17 full-time and 5 part-time positions.
Applicants must meet several requirements, including U.S. citizenship, a valid driver’s license, no felony convictions, and an age range of 21 to under 35 at the time of application, unless otherwise exempt. A high school diploma or GED is required, along with a valid NIPSTA POWER Test card or an equivalent, which must be presented by the written exam date on February 28, 2025.
Candidates must pass a written examination, oral interview, background check, psychological testing, and a medical physical, including drug and alcohol screening. Additional preference points may be awarded for education, prior law enforcement experience, or military service.
