Wilmington, NC – The National Weather Service in Wilmington has issued a Freeze Warning for portions of southeast North Carolina and northeast South Carolina, effective from 10 p.m. Monday through 9 a.m. Tuesday, as clear skies and light winds allow temperatures to plunge overnight.

Forecasters expect sub-freezing temperatures between 25°F and 31°F, marking the coldest air of the season so far for the coastal region. The warning covers areas including Brunswick, New Hanover, Pender, Robeson, Bladen, Columbus, and Marion counties, as well as Georgetown and Horry counties in South Carolina.

The NWS warns that frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, damage sensitive vegetation, and affect unprotected outdoor plumbing. Residents are urged to bring pets indoors, cover plants, and let faucets drip slightly overnight to prevent freezing pipes.

Tuesday will bring sunny skies and a slow warm-up, with highs near 48°F, followed by a steady rise through midweek as temperatures reach the 60s by Thursday.

Officials advise residents to take precautions now before temperatures fall below freezing after sunset.
