Wilmington, DE – A pale, frosty shimmer coats lawns across northern Delaware this early Sunday as the first true chill of late October settles in. Cars glisten under streetlights, and thin mist drifts from the Christina River — a clear reminder that the winter transition is quietly approaching.

The National Weather Service has issued a Frost Advisory until 9 a.m. for much of New Castle County, including Wilmington and communities along the I-95 corridor. Temperatures have dipped near freezing in colder valleys and open fields. Residents should cover sensitive plants, drain hoses, and check outdoor pipes before sunrise.

After this cold start, skies clear quickly with highs climbing to near 61°F under bright sun. Monday and Tuesday stay pleasant and dry, with highs around 58–59°F and light winds — ideal for early Halloween decorating or fall yard cleanup.

By Tuesday night, however, clouds thicken ahead of the next system. Scattered showers arrive late Tuesday into Wednesday, with increasing rain chances (up to 50%) through midweek. Thursday brings the steadiest rain before clearing Friday.

Looking ahead, Halloween still trends mild and mostly dry — great news for trick-or-treaters — but the chill will return soon after.

To be fair, Delaware’s late October is living up to its name — a mix of frost, color, and calm before a chilly November steps in.
