Wilmington, Delaware – Strong and gusty winds continue to impact the Wilmington area Tuesday as a Wind Advisory remains in effect until 1 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service in Mount Holly, New Jersey, reports sustained west winds of 25 to 35 miles per hour, with gusts reaching up to 50 miles per hour, affecting northern Delaware, including Wilmington. These winds are strong enough to cause minor damage and hazardous travel conditions, especially during the late morning hours.

As of early Tuesday, temperatures at Wilmington Airport were near 33 degrees, with wind chills falling into the teens and lower 20s due to the strong winds. Skies remain mostly overcast, and no significant precipitation is expected during the advisory period.

Forecasters warn that gusty winds may blow around unsecured outdoor objects, snap tree limbs, and lead to isolated power outages. The strongest gusts are expected in open and elevated areas, including bridges and highways.

Travel may be difficult at times, particularly for high-profile vehicles such as trucks, vans, and SUVs. Drivers are urged to reduce speed, keep both hands on the wheel, and remain alert for debris on roadways. Pedestrians should also exercise caution near trees, utility lines, and construction zones.

Residents are encouraged to secure loose items such as trash cans, holiday decorations, and patio furniture. Outdoor burning is discouraged due to the combination of wind and dry conditions.

Winds are expected to gradually weaken early this afternoon as the pressure gradient relaxes. No additional hazardous weather is expected to meet warning criteria later this week, though colder temperatures will persist.

Officials advise residents to monitor updates from the National Weather Service in case conditions change.
