Wilmington, DE – A veteran Delaware State Police trooper was killed in the line of duty Tuesday while working an overtime assignment in Wilmington, authorities confirmed.

According to the Delaware State Police, Corporal Grade One Matthew T. “Ty” Snook, 34, was fatally shot on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, while assigned to security at the Karen L. Johnson Division of Motor Vehicles on Hessler Boulevard. The shooting occurred while Snook was actively working his detail.

Snook was a 10-year veteran of the Delaware State Police and a lifelong Delawarean. He was hired on March 6, 2015, as a member of the 88th DSP Recruit Class and, after completing academy and field training, was assigned to Troop 6 at Prices Corner in New Castle County. Throughout his career, Snook served on C-shift, where colleagues described him as dependable, professional, and deeply committed to public service.

A resident of Hockessin, Snook was a graduate of Saint Mark’s High School and the University of Maryland, where he competed as a member of the wrestling team. Fellow troopers described him as a trusted partner and respected colleague who maintained strong ties within the communities he served across northern Delaware and the greater Wilmington area.

Snook is survived by his wife and their one-year-old daughter.

In a statement, the Delaware State Police expressed profound grief, extending condolences to the Snook family and acknowledging the sacrifices made by his loved ones in support of his service.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced and will be released when finalized in coordination with the family.

With the family’s approval, an official fund has been established to support Snook’s family through Help a Hero. Information on contributing is expected to be shared publicly by DSP.
