Willowbrook, Ill. — The Willowbrook Police Department issued a press release on Monday, June 16, for the state-wide Independence Day traffic safety campaign. The department joins with the Illinois State Police and over 200 other local police and sheriff departments to ensure road safety around the holiday.

The campaign will run from June 20 to July 7. The Willowbrook Police Department suggested several alternatives for driving impaired over the holiday, including making a designated driver, taking public transportation or using a ride share service and calling a sober friend to pick you up. The department also encouraged drivers to report issues of impaired driving by pulling over and calling 911. Drivers should also check that all passengers are wearing seatbelts before getting on the road.

“We’re asking all of our residents and visitors to celebrate Independence Day safely,” Deputy Chief Gerard Wodka said in the news release. “It’s simple: If you’re driving, don’t drink or use cannabis or other impairing substances. Our officers will be working diligently to keep impaired drivers off the road and ensure everyone is buckled up.”

The “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” “Drive High Get a DUI” and “Click It or Ticket” campaigns are part of the Illinois Department of Transportation’s “It’s Not a Game” media campaign.
