State College, PA – The National Weather Service in State College has issued a Winter Storm Watch for portions of East Central and Northeast Pennsylvania, forecasting the first widespread significant snowfall of the season from late Monday night through Tuesday evening.
Forecasters say heavy snow exceeding 6 inches is possible across several counties, including Lycoming, Sullivan, Montour, Northumberland, Columbia, and Schuylkill. The storm could make travel very difficult, particularly during the Tuesday morning and evening commutes.
According to the alert, roads, bridges, and overpasses are expected to become slick and hazardous as snow intensifies through Tuesday morning. Motorists are urged to delay travel if possible or use extreme caution if driving cannot be avoided.
The heaviest snow bands are likely to develop Tuesday morning, with lower visibility and steady accumulation expected throughout the day. Residents in cities such as Williamsport, Sunbury, Danville, Bloomsburg, and Pottsville should prepare for slippery conditions and potential disruptions.
The Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from late Monday night through Tuesday evening, and forecasters advise residents to monitor forecast updates as the system’s track and snowfall totals become more certain.
