Herrin, IL – A Herrin man with an outstanding warrant was taken into custody early Thursday after Williamson County Sheriff’s deputies allegedly found him carrying burglary tools.
According to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies located 35-year-old Charles D. Scott walking in an alley near the intersection of Polk Street and 17th Street at about 2:30 a.m. Scott was wanted on a burglary warrant out of Union County and was arrested without incident.
Deputies said they discovered Scott in possession of gloves, masks, keys, hand tools and other items allegedly used to force entry into buildings. Authorities also reported finding an additional item in his backpack that was later confirmed to belong to someone else without their permission.
Scott was cited for possession of burglary tools, a Class 4 felony under Illinois law, and was taken to the Williamson County Jail. The sheriff’s office said evidence suggested some items had allegedly been used in criminal activity.
Sheriff’s officials said they remain committed to removing repeat offenders from the streets and encouraged anyone with information on criminal activity to contact their office at 618-997-6541 or submit a tip through the Williamson County Sheriff’s App.
