Williamson County, IL – Man Charged After Firing Gun to Scare Process Server

Williamson County, IL – A Johnston City man is facing felony charges after allegedly firing a gun during a confrontation with a process server Saturday evening.

According to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 6:43 p.m. September 4 to the 17000 block of Illinois Route 37 after a process server reported hearing gunshots upon leaving the property.

When deputies arrived, they said they encountered a man armed with a handgun. The man, identified as Steven R. King, allegedly hesitated before lowering the weapon after being ordered to drop it. Deputies detained King without further incident and secured the firearm.

Sheriff’s officials stated King admitted he had fired a round into the ground to scare off the process server, saying he did not want her on his property. He was charged with Reckless Discharge of a Firearm, a Class 4 felony under Illinois law.

King was taken into custody and booked into the Williamson County Jail. No injuries were reported in the incident.
