Williamson County, IL – Deputies shut down what they described as an active drug house in Herrin on Thursday after serving a court-authorized search warrant tied to an ongoing methamphetamine investigation. The raid occurred around 11:24 a.m. in the 400 block of North 11th Street.
According to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, investigators allege that the suspect had carried out multiple controlled methamphetamine sales to undercover deputies in recent weeks. During Thursday’s search, deputies reported finding methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, U.S. currency and other items commonly associated with illegal drug activity.
Officials said Joel J. Copley was taken into custody following the search and charged with several offenses, including alleged delivery of methamphetamine (Class 2 felony), alleged possession of methamphetamine (Class 3 felony) and alleged possession of drug paraphernalia (Class A misdemeanor).
Sheriff Jeff Diederich said the operation reflects the department’s continued push to confront narcotics distribution throughout Williamson County. “When individuals choose to distribute methamphetamine in Williamson County, they will be met with decisive action,” Diederich stated, adding that strong cooperation with the State’s Attorney’s Office helps accelerate investigations and prosecutions.
Copley was transported to the Williamson County Jail following his arrest.
The Sheriff’s Office also thanked Williamson County State’s Attorney Ted Hampson for assistance with the investigation.
