Williamson County, IL – A Stonefort man was arrested this week after investigators linked him to a suspicious residential fire on Poplar Street, according to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office.
On October 8, 2025, detectives from Williamson County assisted the Illinois State Fire Marshal in probing the blaze, which was reported around 2:45 p.m. at 303 Poplar Street. Surveillance footage captured Jeffrey A. Glover allegedly arriving at the home by bicycle before leaving briefly and returning with a backpack. Minutes later, one of the security cameras was disabled, and the homeowner returned to find the house filled with smoke.
According to authorities, the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office requested assistance due to the suspicious nature of the fire. The homeowner’s caregiver reportedly used water to extinguish the flames before they spread.
Following a community tip, Saline County Deputies located Glover near the Village of Muddy, Illinois. Officials said he allegedly attempted to flee on a bicycle but was quickly apprehended without incident.
Sheriff Jeff Diederich praised the teamwork among local and state law enforcement, noting the collaboration helped ensure a “dangerous suspect was brought to justice.” The case has been forwarded to the Williamson County State’s Attorney’s Office, with charges pending.
Glover remains in custody at the Saline County Detention Center on a separate Illinois Department of Corrections hold.
