Williams County, ND – Tornado Warning: Mobile Homes and Vehicles at Risk Until 2:30 PM

Williams, N.D. – A confirmed tornado touched down near Ray early Friday afternoon, sending residents across Williams County scrambling for cover as the storm tracked northeast at 5 mph.

According to the National Weather Service in Bismarck, the tornado was spotted just after 1 p.m., about 25 miles northeast of Williston. Weather spotters confirmed the twister, which is capable of producing damaging winds and flying debris. Officials warned that mobile homes, vehicles, and poorly built structures face the greatest risk.

The warning covers mainly rural areas of east-central Williams County, including communities near Wheelock. Emergency officials urged residents to move immediately to basements or interior rooms on the lowest floor of sturdy buildings. Those in mobile homes or vehicles were told to seek nearby shelters without delay.

Tree damage, broken windows, and overturned trailers are all possible as the storm continues east. Drivers are urged to avoid travel in the affected zone until the warning expires.

The tornado warning remains in effect until 1:30 p.m. Friday, with additional alerts possible if the storm strengthens or new rotations develop.
