Homer Township, IL – Drivers in Will County are facing detours today after a traffic crash shut down a key stretch of Cedar Road.
According to the Will County Sheriff’s Office, Cedar Road is currently closed between Route 6 and West Chicago Bloomington Trail in Homer Township. Deputies have advised drivers to avoid the area until further notice.
The closure, announced Monday afternoon, is expected to cause delays for commuters traveling through the southwest suburbs. Officials did not release details about the crash or whether there were injuries, but noted updates will be provided as information becomes available.
Motorists are encouraged to plan alternate routes, particularly those heading toward Route 6 or connecting from nearby arterial roads. Local residents may face delays accessing homes and businesses along the closure zone.
Drivers traveling between Lockport, Homer Glen, and New Lenox should expect additional congestion on nearby roads, including Gougar Road and Farrell Road, as traffic diverts from Cedar.
The Sheriff’s Office has not released a timeline for reopening. Authorities are urging residents to stay alert for detour signs and updates throughout the day.
