Will County, IL Tragedy: Teen Cyclist Struck and Killed by Semi in Manhattan

Manhattan, IL – A tragic crash Monday night in Will County left a 13-year-old boy dead after his bicycle was struck by a semi-truck, according to police.

The Village of Manhattan Police Department reported that officers and firefighters from the Manhattan Fire Protection District were called to the intersection of State Street and East North Street around 5:35 p.m. on October 20. When first responders arrived, they found the juvenile male unresponsive underneath the trailer of the semi.

Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including the Will County Sheriff’s Office, Illinois State Police, Manhattan Emergency Services, and the Will County Coroner’s Office. The Illinois State Police Traffic Reconstruction Unit is leading the investigation into the cause of the crash.

Authorities have not released the victim’s name. The department expressed condolences to the child’s family and asked the community for compassion and support during what they described as “extremely difficult times.”
